animacies1, first made known to me reading Robin Wall Kimmerer’s Braiding Sweetgrass, have been a polyculture2 of a theme for me and very well the working title of my next album. through this notion of sentience, i am living a different kind of life than i’ve ever lived—maybe i experienced spurts of this aliveness at age five nose in the grass gazing at caterpillars crawling in and out of backyard soil. and now, i think about how tingly my books are with sentence holons sprouting into paragraph whole/parts creating entire chapters of meaning, romantically covered in my phalange microbiome3, a filthy exchange in the best way.
are we more bacteria or DNA? message received post edge of life last week was love the gunk. sophie strand is weaving an emergence calling me to be used by the greater life of us all, capital “K” Kosmos4. dying being inherently valuable and necessary—death nearby robustly visiting peripherally and through me though inside this plane’s vessel. not the fungi nor the plant but the infected carpenter ant, i am—loosely aware of my deathly travel biting into the plant while transitioning into a deceased agent of beauty. how much of life do we design and how much of it do we surrender to?
love is here, coming, and preparedness forgets me—perhaps readiness is not the goal though acceptance of messy living is. it is hard to depict where i am now, a liminal space between rich outcast Silicon Valley NFT degens5 and a world of emerging soil howling disabled death gallops, both holding space in and for community, i feel lucid dreaming tickling life’s hardships and calling it peace—dominant culture ignorant to its own composting—modernity hanging on like a rotting nail needing transcendence and inclusion, releasing and coveting simultaneously.
sentience determination though not dichotomous in nature
